Here you can find suggestions for activities to do that will earn you service hours when in-person volunteering isn’t happening or if you aren’t able to attend.
All volunteer submissions are subject to review before approval.
This page will be updated as additional activities are added.
Please note that Media and Database reviews use the same submission form.
Media Reviews (4 hr per review)
Limited to 2 per month.
Submit a 150–300-word review of a new YA book in our collection, a new movie, or a new music album. The review should NOT be a summary of the book or movie. More information of what should be included for this review is found on the media review page here.
You can see our new additions in our New Books section at the top of the teen page or under the Teen tab in the library catalog.
Database Reviews (1 hr per review)
Limited to 3 per month.
Submit a 150–300-word review for one of our library databases. These can be found under the Resource section of the teen page. The database review should cover the following:
- What is the scope of the database? What information does it provide?
- Is the database organized in a user-friendly way?
- Who would be the ideal user for this database?
- What is something you can find using this database? (You provide an example).
ACCESS THE REFERENCE DATABASE PAGE HERE.
Book lists (1 hr per list)
Create a list of 10 – 15 books related to a theme of your choice to be used for a display. Provide the title, author, and a short synopsis of each book.
Use the Novelist database to search for books, which can be found in our Reference database list, or use the library catalog to search for books here.
