Lunch and a Movie

Weight Training for Every Body

Tuesday, June 28th at 7:00pm

Join Jacque Jones from the Memorial Park District to learn easy exercise and strength training moves and why you should do them, no matter your age or fitness level. Most of the exercises do not require equipment, only your body, a wall, a chair, and a table.

Jacque has professional fitness certifications as a strength and conditioning specialist, personal trainer, health coach, medical exercise specialist, and exercise physiologist. She has also earned engineering and kinesiology degrees in movement science. She develops programs and trains clients at 2 fitness centers: The Center at Stevenson Park, Memorial Park District, and Courts Plus, Elmhurst Park District.

Back-to-School Health Fair

Saturday, July 30th from 10 am-2 pm, Proviso West High School

Join state representative Chris Welch for the back-to-school Health Fair, featuring free health physicals, dental screenings, haircuts, and school supply kits.

Free Summer Meals for Kids and Teens

June 20th – August 19th from 12:00-1:30 pm.

Free for kids age 18 and under. Healthy meals based on USDA nutrition guidelines. Available at 2 locations: Beye Elementary School (230 N Cuyler Ave, Oak Park) and St. John’s Lutheran Church (305 Circle Ave, Forest Park).

Library no longer accepting electronic items for recycling

The library board voted to end our participation in the electronics recycling program. Electronic equipment can be dropped off at the Hillside Village Hall Municipal Complex, located next door to the library at 425 Hillside Avenue. Their phone number is 708-449-6450.

The hours that electronic equipment can be dropped off for recycling are:
Monday thru Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Please do not drop electronic items off for recycling at the library.

Children & Young Adult Summer Reading

Sign-up begins Monday, June 13th

Everyone who lives in Hillside, has a Hillside Public Library card in good standing, or attends a school located in Hillside (i.e. Hillside School, PAEC in Hillside, or Immanuel Christian Academy) is welcome to participate for free. A Hillside Library card, a Hillside school ID, or a Hillside school report card must be presented to register for the Summer Reading Program.

Adult Summer Reading Begins June 13th!

Exercise your mind! Read!

Sign-up for adult summer reading begins Monday, June 13th and continues through Monday, June 27th. Complete six challenges by July 30th and be entered to win a wearable activity tracker: the Garmin Forerunner! Free for Hillside residents.

June adult summer reading programs – register at the Circulation Desk:

Gentle Yoga – Wednesday, June 22nd from 7:00 to 8:00 pm
This is a beginner-level yoga class for adults. No experience is required. Your can bring your own mat, but mats will be available for use during class if you don’t have one.

On to Good Health – Tuesday, June 29th at 7:00 pm
Boxing coach Shannon Kimble from Final Round Combat Sports Academy will present a program on ways to live a healthy lifestyle.

Share the Plate with Chef Bernardo Leon Returns!

Second Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, starting June 14th

Chef Bernardo Leon is back! Foods on the grill is the theme for this summer. After a cooking demonstration, the food is sampled by all and the recipes are distributed. Please register.

Bilingual Red Cross First Aid/CPR Certification Course

Thursday, June 9th from 4:30 to 8:45 pm

Instruction will be given in both English and Spanish. Class is limited to 12 students. Must be 16 or over, and a $5 deposit is required at registration.

A second bilingual session will be held Tuesday, August 2nd from 4:30 to 8:45 pm.
